Personal Bio
Born in Toronto, I was the younger of two boys. We moved to British Columbia in 1987, and settled down in Abbotsford. In 1997 I moved to Victoria and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Victoria, where I focused my studies on Public Policy. Returning to Vancouver in 2000, I attended Simon Fraser University and earned my Masters of Arts in Economics, focusing my studies on Mathematical Modelling.

Born with both an adventurous and entrepreneurial spirit, I indulged the former in 2006 with extensive travels through South East Asia, India, the Middle East, and Europe. On my return, I committed myself to building a company that would allow me to amalgamate the fruits of my education with the principle of my faith and life lessons.

Professional Bio
Freshly graduated in 2001, I secured an Economic grad’s obligatory position as a customer service representative in a bank. My entrepreneurial side could not suffer this long, however, and in 2002 I was taken under the wing of Rob Friesen of Bright Trading, where I learned the craft of pair trading.

After borrowing $5,000 from my parents, and arranging to evenly split my profits with Bright Trading, I began my apprenticeship. In my first month, I had a particularly notable day, as I took advantage of the SP 500 being rebalanced, and made $10,000 in one day. This allowed me to invest $5,000 in Bright Trading to become an independent trader, with $10,000 in my account.

Which I promptly lost.

My parents—ever supportive—bailed me out with a $2,000 loan.

Which I promptly lost.

Once again, my parents were there to keep my dreams alive, and sent me off with another $2,000 in my pocket.

Which I promptly lost, in addition to being in the red by a further $1,000. As a gesture of good faith, Bright allowed me to continue trading into Friday, and I clawed my way back to end the week with a $100 in my account. After the series of losses I had suffered, I fully expected that my trading career was at an end, but after an encouraging conversation with Bob Bright, I kept at it. In October of that same year, I traded only Morgan Stanley against Merril Lynch, and saved my career; I ended my first full year of trading having made $100,000.

A year later, I began mentoring new traders with Rob Friesen, and joined PairCo, the parent company of Pairtrader.com. In 2006 I spent 5 months living in Las Vegas trading under the mentorship of Bob Bright, and by the end of the year had over 80 mentees.

In 2005 I had the privilege of being named one of the top 30 traders under 30 by Traders Monthly Magazine.

Back in Vancouver now, I have a new arrangement with Pairtraider.com, which allows me to work in partnership with both my brother and father. Our Vancouver office is now open, and based on my philosophies of ‘doing the right thing’ and ‘giving back to others’, I strongly believe the most rewarding days of my career are about to dawn.
